How to Earn Money Online - Terminology, Part 1

I would like to go over just a few terminology terms that you will hear frequently as you enter the world of Making Money Online. Think of this as your online glossary.

The learning curve for novices, especially novices that haven't been in the tech world, is huge. This article will provide some clarity for terms internet marketers use frequently. Keep in mind the following is my definition of a term, not necessarily Webster's definition. I am also making this brief, as many of these terms require their own articles. I will only be covering a portion of these terms in this article, so be sure to watch for part two.

Domain Name: Your unique business name. You must register your name with a company such as Name Cheap or Go Daddy. There are many companies able to help you register your domain name. There is a charge every year to keep your unique domain name.

Hosting Company: A company that will sell, rent or lease you space on their servers for your website, webpage or blog. Yes, there is a fee for this service.

Cpanel: Some hosting companies, but not all, refer to cpanel. This is the Control Panel where you make changes to your website, webpage or blog.

Keywords: This one's a big deal in the internet marketing world. These are the words you enter into the search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc.) to search for a subject, item, product or information. What they do with that information comes next.

Keyword Search: The keywords mentioned above are tracked, analyzed and rated by popularity. There are many keyword tools to help determine the best keywords or keyword phrases. Many experts believe this is the single most important item for a successful internet marketing campaign. This is right in line with "the list", which is coming up.

The List: Per the experts, this is where the money is. "The list" refers to how many customers, including contact information, a marketer has at their disposal at any given time. From my limited experience, an average list is a few thousand. Experts in the field have many thousands of customers in which to send offers to.

Opt-In: This is how you grow your list. It is a box with name and email fields. You, as a customer, fill out the box and in return the internet marketer will send you information or product.

Niche: The best way to explain a niche is to refer it to sub-category. If your category is baby items, your sub-category could be organic baby food. Organic baby food would be your niche.

I hope this information has been helpful to explain some of the internet marketing terminology and thus helps you earn money online. Did you pick up on the fact I was using some of my "keywords"? Article marketing with keywords is very popular and a good way to earn money from home. I will be covering article marketing terminology in How To Earn Money Online - Terminology, Part 2.
